nine years since he won the WRC crown
with Subaru (LEFT), but Petter Solberg is
finally back in a works team. He’ll race a

Muscle Milk’s Lola-based Aston Martin was arguably the fastest car in the ALMS last year, but was edged out by the more consistent Dyson Lola for title honors.

Eric Bachelart and his Conquest IndyCar
team are expanding beyond open-wheel
racing for 2012, having secured a deal
to become the U.S. importer for
French-based OAK-Pescarolo and to run
one of the LMP2 cars (BELOW) in the
American Le Mans Series.
“We are delighted to have formed a
CONQUEST ON A
partnership between Conquest
Endurance, OAK Racing and Onroak
Automotive,” said Bachelart. “The
OAK-Pescarolos have proven their worth
in Europe and now we cannot wait to
demonstrate their performance and
reliability in America. We are convinced
that this will be the chassis of choice in
ALMS during 2012 and beyond.”
Conquest, which has fielded Indy
cars and Champ Cars since 2002,
intends to run at least one car in this
year’s IZOD IndyCar Series as well,
although it has yet to name a driver.
Pippa Mann and Sebastian Saavedra
drove for the team last year.
IndyCar team goes ALMS
racing with OAK LMP2s
Greg Pickett’s Muscle Milk Pickett Racing squad
confirmed in late December it will switch to an HPD
ARX-03a for the 2012 season. The car is an evolution of
the P1-spec HPD run by Highcroft Racing to second place at last
year’s 12 Hours of Sebring, when it was known as the ARX-01e.
The deal is part of a multifaceted, long-term relationship
between CytoSport – Pickett’s health and nutrition company
and the makers of Muscle Milk – and American Honda that
includes Muscle Milk title sponsorship of the Honda factory
motocross team, now known as Team Honda Muscle Milk.
“We’re very proud to announce this deal with HPD as we feel
confident that their car and engine package, along with our
tire partner Michelin, offer us the best combination to achieve
our ultimate goal of 2012 – which is to win the LMP1
championship,” said Pickett, who added
that Klaus Graf and Lucas Luhr will
continue as the team’s drivers.
HPD shuttered its ALMS program after
Sebring last year for lack of sponsorship,
and its former team partner, Highcroft
Racing, is now part of the consortium
preparing the Delta Wing Le Mans
program. Muscle Milk, meanwhile,
campaigned a Lola-Aston Martin with
which the team scored four ALMS wins
but also, later in the season, a litany of
ill-timed mechanical woes that blunted
its title challenge.
