A third Indianapolis 500 win doesn’t suddenly thrust Dario Franchitti into the realms of the greats. He was already there. Not that he’s ready to acknowledge it just yet...

here are times when Dario Franchitti is
fierce, focused, smooth, demanding,
tenacious, precise and every other
endless characteristic we expect from a
racer who has won four IndyCar Series
championships and, now, three
Indianapolis 500s. Then again, there are
times when he is full of wonder and joy,
almost childlike, and nothing at all like the
person we see in a racecar. He’s a constant
contradiction between the racer and the
race fan – the guy who’s as fascinated by
what he does as he is good at it.
