NEW SERIES, FRESH CHALLENGES
sons in the car for the Rolex 24
at Daytona – the first time
Wayne would share a car with
his boys and business partner.
Bob Johnson’s Action
Express Racing team filed one
full-time entry for the No. 5
Corvette DP with Joao Barbosa
and Christian Fittipaldi at the
controls, plus four-time Champ
Car champion Sebastien
Bourdais for the NAEC events.
The Gary Nelson-led program
will run its No. 9 Corvette DP
for the NAEC rounds. Brian and
Burt Frisselle, Fabien Giroix,
Stefan Johansson and John
Martin team up in it for the
season-opening Rolex 24.
Spirit of Daytona signed
Michael Valiante to partner with
Richard Westbrook in the No. 90
Corvette DP, adding Audi’s 2013
DTM champ Mike Rockenfeller
to its Rolex 24 effort, and could
be ready for great things.
Two-time DP champion
GAINSCO/Bob Stallings
Racing has pared down its
schedule to the NAEC events
only in 2014, retaining Jon
Fogarty and Alex Gurney to
pilot the popular No. 99 “Red
Dragon” Corvette DP. Like Spirit
of Daytona owner Try Flis, Bob
Stallings is hoping his team will
find more success this season
after 2013 proved to be a
somewhat bumpy ride.
The fifth team and sixth car in
the Corvette DP squadron is the
newest, as longtime Rolex GT
Corvette entrant Teddy Marsh
has taken his Connecticut-based
Marsh Racing team to the
top category in the TUDOR
Championship. Carrying their
familiar No. 31 and sponsorship
from Sonny Whelen, drivers Eric
Curran and Boris Said will run
for the championship, with Max
Papis joining in for the NAEC.
