NASCAR Sprint Cup Series season might
have looked fairly typical.
After all, Jimmie Johnson won his sixth
Sprint Cup championship in the last eight
years, while Chevrolet won an 11th straight
NASCAR Sprint Cup Manufacturers’
Championship and 37th overall. But the
reality is that it was anything but business
as usual. Just ask Alba Colon...
As the NASCAR Sprint Cup program
manager for Chevrolet Racing, it was Colon’s
job to work closely with NASCAR and the
other automakers in the series to introduce
the all-new-for-2013 Generation- 6
Sprint Cup car, specifically the Chevrolet SS.
Not only did the SS and the other Gen- 6
cars look new, there were a whole lot of
technical differences. The Gen- 6 cars weigh
in at 3,300lbs, 150lb lighter than the old
cars, and the hoods are made of carbon
fiber and supplied by the automakers, as
