For sports car racing fans, there’s only one
place to be Oct. 4-7: Road Atlanta, Ga., for
the 20th Anniversary Motul Petit Le Mans.
First run in 1998, the 10-hour,
day-into-night enduro quickly established
itself as one of sports car racing’s classic
events. As the season-closer for the IMSA
Weather Tech SportsCar Championship,
titles are sure to be on the line when
four close-fought classes of prototype
and GT machinery race together on the
challenging, 2.54-mile Road Atlanta track.
This year, Petit Le Mans hosts IMSA’s new
breed of faster, even more spectacular DPi
prototypes for the first time. With Cadillac,
Mazda and Nissan bringing the noise, the
DPi cars will be fighting for the overall
victory in the headlining Prototype class.
Want a lasting memory to take into the
winter? Just watch the top guns of DP
scream into Turn 1, or dance through The
Esses – you won’t forget that in a hurry!
As well as the fast and furious prototype
action, GT Le Mans’ factory fleets from
Ford, Corvette, Ferrari, BMW and Porsche
will be pushing 100 percent from start
to finish in a class that’s too close to call.
Not to be outdone, GT Daytona
pitches eight different makes into a
wheel-to-wheel battle that’s as much for
end-of-season bragging rights as titles,
while Prototype Challenge will be signing
off in style with its own cliffhanger.
Petit Le Mans always puts on a great
fireworks display to greet the winning
car, but the 20th Anniversary running is
set to supply on-track pyrotechnics from
start to finish. Don’t miss it!
