The 2016 Verizon IndyCar Series is here,
and I think it’s going to be better than ever!
One of the huge storylines will be the
100th running of the Indianapolis 500. It’s
going to be amazing, but it’s also going to
be easy to get lost in it, so it’s important
that we as drivers and teams treat it like
it’s just another race. That said, Target Chip
Ganassi Racing wants to win Indy every
year, and for whoever’s lucky enough to
win this one, it’s going to be very special.
There are going to be a lot of keen
eyes on the battle between Chevrolet
and Honda – both sides have been
working hard over the winter, and I think
the racing is going to be off the charts.
We have some fantastic new additions
to the calendar, with the return to
Phoenix, a Road America stop, and a
brand new event in downtown
Boston. Those three races alone
demonstrate IndyCar’s incredible
diversity – you’ve got an oval, a
road course and a street course.
It’s also exciting to see some
of the young American rookies
coming in, like Alexander Rossi,
Conor Daly and Spencer Pigot,
as well as a Brit, Max Chilton,
who’s joined our team. To all
those guys, I extend a huge
welcome to the IndyCar Series.
They’re going to love it.
I’m heading into the year as the
defending series champion, which is
nice, although it doesn’t really change
much. Our main goal is to try to repeat,
because we’ve never done that –
although I am closing the gaps. It
was a five-year stretch between
championships, and now I’ve got it
down to two years. So back-to-back
would be pretty sweet.
Hope to see you at the races!
