Firestone handles a lot of tires during
a Verizon IndyCar Series race weekend
and, not surprisingly, it also needs to
book a lot of hotel rooms.
There are actually two different groups
that operate together under the
Firestone flag: the Firestone Racing
personnel (who technically work for
Bridgestone Americas Motorsports), and
those employed by Performance Tire
Service Company (PTSC), which takes
care of things like logistics and tire
mounting and balancing.
Combined, they account for an
average of between 30 and 35 personnel
at most races. But, as is the case with
most other suppliers, that number rises
substantially at the Indianapolis 500, due
to the extra workload associated with
supplying a raft of additional cars for the
two weeks that make up practice,
qualifying and the race itself.
