2013 NHRA MELLO YELLO DRAG RACING SERIES AT A GLANCE
Three-time NHRA Top Fuel champion
Larry Dixon, sidelined last year after
leaving Alan Johnson’s Al-Anabi Racing
team in December 2011, is back for
2013 with Australian Santo Rapisarda’s
all-new operation, which has been
completely overhauled by veteran crew
chief Lee Beard.
“Santo’s got all the right equipment and
has committed to run from 12 to 18 races,”
Dixon says. “If we get more sponsorship
– that’s my job – we’ll run more.”
Dixon opened the season at Pomona,
and if he’s able to secure adequate
funding as the year progresses, a full
season remains a possibility.
“Lee has brought in people he worked
with on other teams, and they’ve taken
the car down to the bare chassis and
reassembled everything the way he likes
it done,” Dixon says. “It’s a total
makeover, right down to the colors, the
logo, even the name of the team
[Rapisarda Autosport International].
We’ve got everything you need.
“I hated not racing last year, but that’s
not a tragedy; that’s life. It’ll be nice to
stand on the gas and go down the
racetracks instead of watching other
people do it from the ESPN booth, and
the goal is always the same, no matter
who I’m driving for – Don Prudhomme,
Alan Johnson, or Santo Rapisarda. Win!”
