It was a season of highs and lows for Leah
Pritchett in the 2016 NHRA Mello Yello Drag
Racing Series: a first career Top Fuel win, her
team folding in tragic circumstances, then
squeaking into the Countdown after Don
Schumacher Racing provided a lifeline.
Fast forward to 2017, and the start of
her first full campaign with DSR has marked
the Californian as the Top Fuel driver to
beat. A win from the No. 1 qualifying spot
in the season-opening Winternationals in
Pomona was followed by...a win from the
No. 1 qualifying spot at Phoenix. Throw in
a record-breaking 3.658sec, 329.34mph
pass at Phoenix and Pritchett is already
looking like a lock for a Countdown spot
and a tilt at a first Top Fuel title.

later, she’d do it

Leah Pritchett’s early-season form marks her as the one to
beat in the NHRA Mello Yello Drag Racing Series’ Top Fuel ranks.

Can he defend his title?
Of course. And he’s made
a habit of coming on
strong in the late races.
The stats say he wins a
title every five years. His
current form says he’s set
to buck that trend...
Finally landed the title in
2016. Now he’s unlocked
the secret, don’t expect him
to lose momentum now.

REACTION TIME? .005!
THAT’S JUST CRAZY...
Funny Car ace Matt Hagan joined
Leah Pritchett in going “twofer” in
the 2017 openers. Like Pritchett,
the two-time champ is part of
DSR’s eight-car assault – four per
class, and all potential winners.
that is constantly putting out such quick
numbers is, to be honest, a little bit difficult
to comprehend,” Pritchett said. “It’s
everything that dreams are made of. It’s
almost too good to be true, but it’s not.”
Reigning Pro Stock chanp Jason Line
almost matched Pritchett’s results in the
opening two events, taking No. 1
qualifying spot in Pomona and Phoenix,
and posting a win in the Winternationals.
But it was his KB Racing teammate, Greg
Anderson, grabbing his 87th event Wally
in Phoenix as Line exited in round two.
It’s still early days in the 2017 season,
but the speed of both Summit Racing
Equipment Chevrolet Camaros has the
rest of the closely-matched Pro Stock
field sitting up and taking notice.
