RECIPE FOR A CHAMPION
single most important factor in a champion’s
makeup. Too positive and you see the world
as some sort of unrealistic fairytale, often
misjudging reality for something you wished
existed. But with the right level of positive,
you feel strong as an ox and sharp,
enthusiastic and energetic. Too negative
and even getting out of bed becomes a
struggle. However, a little negative helps
you clearly see risk factors. It’s getting
the right balance that’s the challenge!
Also, a champion is never beaten, even
when he clearly is.
No, I haven’t been drinking, dear
readers. Let me try and explain...
Even the best guys never win it all, so
losing is always a real possibility. But when
you lose, you learn, file it and move on.
You are never beaten. A beaten man no
longer believes, no longer possesses the
strength and determination to succeed.
A champion is extremely focused, too.
You can’t be mindful if you’re not focused.
You can’t develop if you’re not focused.
No bright ideas will come to you.
In fact, that leads me to the last point
I’ll make, given RACER’s restrictions on
my literary talents. (Make it quick, Gil - Ed)
A champion is constantly evolving,
developing, improving. The status quo is
never enough; there’s always a better
place. The best thing I ever read in this
regard was in an interview with Juan
Manuel Fangio, where he said, “A champion
must simultaneously think he is the best
and the worst.” Feeling the best gives you
the strength to perform incredible feats and
compete; feeling the worst puts you in the
right mindset to constantly improve.
So, aspiring champions, find your love,
practice, focus, be determined, strategic,
positive, keep improving and keep your
emotions under control.
Oh, and one last thing: stay in the
present...and drive! Forget the world
exists. Expectations, anxiety, worries,
pressures – they’ll all disappear.
You will be amazed and amazing!
