Prototype, the class that supplies the
overall race winners ( 99 percent of the
time, anyway...), gets a major reboot, with
Daytona Prototype international adding
speed and brand identity to the mix.
It’s standing room only in the GT3-based
GT Daytona class. Acura (ABOVE), Lexus
and Mercedes-AMG join an already
loaded field and the task of picking a title
favorite becomes even more futile.
GT Le Mans does what it did last year –
only possibly even better. Porsche brings
a mid-engined 911 RSR (ABOVE) to the
factory slugfest, and Corvette, Ford, BMW
and Ferrari will only get faster. Excellent!
Totally gratuitous fireworks shot? No, it’s
the pyro-fest laid on by the Rolex 24 at
Daytona. This year, the fireworks could
be on the track, too, when the season
blasts off in Florida, Jan 28-29.
